I decided after a lot of experimentation to make a collage of monotypes and paste paper for Kamala's book. I originally wanted to create an image relating to the Black Panthers that would have explored that organization and its roots in California and their presence in Chicago, but also reference the movie Black Panther and its huge impact on blacks in America and around the world. I thought with the recent death of Chadwick Baseman it would be a significant phenomena to include in the year 2020.
The year 2020 may be one of the most tumultuous in the last 100 years. Project 2020 will uniquely capture the images of 9 artists who were compelled to create during this extraordinary era - culminating in ten-page artists’ books. Some images will be direct visual responses to events and phenomena of the year, while others may not. Each document, however, will be an expression of the times, something to look at and ponder for years, and serve as a record to artists who were present.
